A cruiser bike is perfect for riding along park alleys and city streets. Created for relaxation, the cruiser is designed to be lightweight, reliable and comfortable. And yet, despite these versatile features, there are a number of essential details to consider when choosing a touring bike. After spending a little time choosing a bike, you can later enjoy the ride to the fullest.
Instructions
Step 1
Start your cruiser selection by examining the frame and evaluating its practicality. The size of the frame should be appropriate for your height. Stand next to the bike and estimate its height. Ideally, the top of the frame will be about 10cm below your waist. This height will allow you to reach the handlebars freely and avoid straining your hands.
Step 2
Assess the material the frame is made of. It can be steel, titanium or carbon. The steel structure is cheaper, but it has a significant weight - at least 15 kg. A bicycle with a frame made of chrome-molybdenum steel will weigh much less. Frames made of aluminum or its alloys have the best strength-to-weight ratio.
Step 3
If bike weight is critical to you, opt for a frame structure made from composite materials such as carbon or Kevlar. A significant drawback of such a cruiser is increased sensitivity to physical influences.
Step 4
Ask when choosing a cruiser saddle. This detail largely determines the comfort of cycling. Cheap models have a not very comfortable seat, but if you wish, you can later replace it, focusing on your preferences. Wide saddles are more suitable for walks, narrow ones are typical for models with a sports bias. Advanced cruiser models have special gel inserts for a comfortable ride.
Step 5
Make sure your bike saddle has a comfortable height adjustment. With the correct body position adjustment, the fully extended leg should reach the pedal at bottom dead center. Some bikes allow you to move the saddle forward or backward, which is also handy if you want maximum riding comfort.
Step 6
Pay attention to the material from which the wheel rims are made. An aluminum rim is lighter and stronger than a steel rim. In addition, it is practically not afraid of corrosion. The tread width and tread pattern for the cruiser does not matter much, since it was not originally designed for off-road driving. But for good-surfaced roads, you should choose a cruiser with narrow, smooth tires.
