One of the most spectacular and beautiful sports is tennis, which is so named as opposed to table tennis. Its history dates back to the 16th century, when only noble people played tennis. This sport has changed, developed and, in the end, survived in the form in which it is known now.
Instructions
Step 1
Tennis provides a specific area for the game - the court. It is a rectangular flat surface with markings applied to it. The latter indicates the back and side lines behind which players can move, but the ball cannot go out of bounds. Moreover, the outer boundaries of the lines are considered to be outside the site, i.e. during a rally, the ball may hit the line. There is a net stretched across the entire width of the court in the middle of the court. Serve lines or zones are also marked, which include space 7 yards (or 6.40 m) from the net. Depending on the side from which the service is made, the player must enter the right or left service zone. Single player court dimensions are 26 x 9 yards (23.77 x 8.23m). For doubles, the width of the court has been increased to 12 yards (or 10.97 m).
Step 2
Surfaces on the courts can be different: grass, dirt, hard, synthetic, carpet. There is no advantage for any type of court, therefore even professional tournaments of a prestigious status are held on different types of surfaces. The tactics of the game depend on the latter, since the parameters of the ball bounce and the speed of movement of the players differ on different surfaces. The athlete, together with the coach, is preparing for the upcoming tournament, taking into account the court coverage.
Step 3
Also for tennis, specialized equipment is provided - a racket and a ball. The racket is represented by a handle that turns into a rounded rim with strings. It is with the stringed surface that the athlete strikes the ball. Tennis racquet strings can be artificial or natural. And today the former are in no way inferior to the latter in quality. The degree of tension of the strings can be different, which determines the ease of control of the flight of the ball and the force of the blow. Outstanding athletes use custom-made rackets. Novice athletes and amateurs buy ready-made ones. Racket parameters (handle length, rim size, number of strings) are regulated by the International Tennis Federation.
Step 4
A tennis ball is usually a yellow rubber hollow ball. It can also be white, but at major tournaments shown on television, bright yellow is used as the most visible color when filmed. Lovers can play with balls of other bright colors. The top of the tennis ball is covered with felt, which provides it with certain aerodynamic properties. The parameters of this equipment (weight, size, degree of deformation) are also determined by the tennis federation.
Step 5
The rules provide for the presence of two players (or two teams) on the court on opposite sides of the net. One of the players in one game is considered the server and the other is the receiver. The serve is carried out to the specified zone, with a successful attempt, the rally begins. If the attempt is unsuccessful, the player puts the ball back into play. If there are two service faults, a point is awarded to the opponent. During the rally, the ball on the side of one of the players must not fall onto the court more than once: the player can either bounce the ball that bounced off the ground, or play it in the air (without waiting for it to bounce off the ground). If a player makes a mistake, he loses a point, and the opponent, accordingly, gains it. The match is judged by the referee on the tower, he can be helped by the side referees. Also, since 2006, the Hawk-Eye electronic refereeing system has been used to eliminate human error.
Step 6
A tennis match is divided into sets and sets into games. In the latter, you need to win 4 points (one point - 15, two points - 30, three - 40, four - a game). The difference in points between the opponents must be more than two, i.e.if the score is even, then the game continues until one of the players has two more points. The player who wins 6 games first is considered to have won the set. But the difference in games must also be more than two (maximum score is 7-5). If the game score is 6-6, an additional set is played - a tie-break (up to 7 points with a difference between the players of more than two points). Matches are played in 3 or 5 sets, which is determined by the rules of the competition. Accordingly, a player must win either 2 out of 3 or 3 out of 5 sets to win the match.
