Modern industry produces comfortable and lightweight skis, as well as reliable metal mounts for them. But in some cases, the skier's legs are connected to the skis with soft straps. The advantage of such a fastener is that it is versatile and does not require special shoes. Fasteners in the form of straps are used by hunters and fishermen, and for the safety of skiing, it is often more convenient to equip children's skis with straps.
It is necessary
- - skiing;
- - soft mounts;
- - drill, drill;
- - rubber pads;
- - small nails.
Instructions
Step 1
If necessary, remove the packaging from the skis and wipe them with a soft cloth. Prepare your own mounts. In most cases, they are adjustable in size, wide soft straps made of leather or tarpaulin, into which the toe of the shoe is inserted. The main strap can also be attached with an additional strap or elastic band that wraps around the back of the leg and holds it while sliding.
Step 2
Determine the center of gravity of the ski. To do this, place it on the edge of a board or wooden ruler, bringing it into balance. The toe of the foot inserted into the bindings should be in line with the center of gravity of the ski. In some cases, the skis already have a side hole (cut-through) already drilled into which the attachment strap is inserted. If the notch is missing, make it yourself with a drill and chisel.
Step 3
Insert the fastening strap into the through recess and secure it in the form of a ring (loop). The size of the ring into which the shod foot will be inserted, then adjust to the size of the shoe; for this, the soft belt is equipped with a special bracket. If the design includes an additional leg strap, attach it first.
Step 4
In the absence of a notch, you can do without it. Attach the strap to the top of the ski with small screws through a thin metal plate. Make a plate along the width of the strap, making holes in it for the screws. Countersink the holes so that countersunk screws can be used.
Step 5
Install a special rubber plate on the surface of the ski so that the shoes do not slip when walking. The rubber can be planted with waterproof glue or nailed down with small nails.
Step 6
Do the same with the second ski. Skis equipped with soft bindings are usually interchangeable, that is, they can be worn on either foot.
Step 7
Perform the final adjustment of the soft mounts after putting on the shoes that you intend to use when skiing. Adjust the size of the strap and the tension of the additional strap to fit your foot so that it fits snugly around the shoe, preventing it from coming out of the loop.
