When buying new skis, you have to deal with the installation of bindings on them. In stores, of course, they offer to install mounts on purchased skis, but this is associated with additional costs. Putting the mounts yourself is not such a difficult task, the main thing is to carefully calculate all the parameters and follow in detail the instructions attached to the purchased mounts.
It is necessary
- - template for marking holes;
- - ruler;
- - marker;
- - drill with drill;
- - glue;
- - screwdriver.
Instructions
Step 1
Read the instructions that come with the purchased mounts. Be guided by it when performing further work. Find the center of gravity of the ski by placing it on the back of a chair or any other thin enough object with the sliding surface up.
Step 2
Position the ski on the back of a chair so that it is horizontal without your support. The place of contact between the ski and the back of the chair will be the center of gravity. Draw a transverse line with a marker on the outside of the ski. If there is a special template for drilling holes with the mounts, align the template with the center of gravity of the ski and mark the place for the mount.
Step 3
If there is no template, check the instructions for the bindings and indent from the center of gravity of the ski to the length indicated in the instructions. On skis designed exclusively for skating, the bindings move slightly backward from the center of gravity. The standard length is 9 to 13 centimeters.
Step 4
Drill holes to a depth slightly less than the length of the self-tapping screws on which the fasteners will be installed (self-tapping screws are usually included in the kit). Pour some glue into the holes, it is also included in a set with fasteners. If you don't have such glue, use epoxy or PVA glue. Attach the mount to the ski and tighten the screws.
Step 5
If your ski bindings have a stand-alone pad, mark its position based on the size of your boot. Screw on the heel with a self-tapping screw or glue it with special glue, depending on the recommendations in the instructions. After installing the bindings, leave the skis at room temperature for a day so that the glue holding the screws is completely dry. After that, you can ski.
