Participants of the 41st most difficult rally-raid in the world Dakar-2019 will have to overcome more than 5500 kilometers, 70% of which are dunes. This will be the first ever Dakar to take place in only one country, namely Peru. It starts on January 7 and finishes in 10 days in the capital of the country, Lima. In the 41st "Dakar" there will be no difficulties of previous races, there will be no variety of landscapes, as in Bolivia, Argentina or Paraguay. However, it is completely wrong to think that Dakar 2019 will be easy.
334 vehicles (126 SUVs and SxS, 41 trucks, 138 motorcycles and 29 ATVs) will take part in Dakar-2019. There were 17 women registered, which is the largest number since 2009. 30% or 135 participants of 97 crews are beginners. Embedded video
So, SUVs and SxS will cover 5603 kilometers, of which 2961 kilometers (52.8%) are special stages. Motorcycles and ATVs will cover 5,541 kilometers in total, of which 2,889 kilometers (52, 12%) of the special stage. Trucks will cover 2 kilometers less both in general and on special stages.
In addition, off-road and truck riders who leave before the day of rest, that is, until January 12, they will be given a second chance. They will be able to continue the race in a separate classification, but at the special stages they will not start among the first 25.
For the fifth and ninth stages, the organizers planned a mass start. At the second stage, SUVs will be the first to go. At the tenth stage, after the start of the first ten motorcyclists, 10 SUVs start, and then 10 trucks.
The marathon stage is planned for the fourth and fifth days, but the routes for motorcyclists and ATVs and for trucks and SUVs will be different.
It will be a different, but far from simple Dakar …
