The second match of the 2016 Copa America Centenario tournament took place in the American city of Ontario. The national teams of Costa Rica and Paraguay entered the field of the stadium.
Costa Ricans at the World Championship held in Brazil achieved an outstanding result for themselves (reached the quarterfinals stage). The tournament that had begun could once again bring a sensation in the face of this national team. However, the first half of the match Costa Rica - Paraguay could not be remembered by the fans of both teams thanks to any scoring achievements.
Both national teams started the meeting with good movement, but the heat of thirty-four degrees did not allow the teams to maintain a good pace in the second half of the half. For the first forty-five minutes, the teams had no real chances to score. The audience could remember only the forced pause caused by the heat after half an hour of the match (the athletes were allowed to drink for at least a minimal restoration of the water-salt balance). The first half of the match ended in a dismal goalless draw.
The second half of the meeting did not change the situation on the pitch. The players did not have clear scoring opportunities to hit each other's goal. The presence of standards at the other's gates also did not bring the desired result. Among the attacks on the shots of the Paraguayans, one can only note the moment at the 71st minute, when, after a corner kick and a kick from the penalty area, the ball rebounded into the corner of the goal after a rebound. However, the Costa Rican goalkeeper coped with the situation.
The last five minutes was remembered by a long-range shot by a Costa Rica player on the goal of the South Americans, but even at that moment the ball did not cross the cherished line.
The teams neutralized each other. Throughout the match, while playing in defense, the concentration of the players was not lost, which was the result of a goalless draw. Goal moments on the field were replaced by power martial arts, which at the very end of the match led to a red card. In the last compensated minute, Costa Rican Kendal Vaston was sent off.
After a draw, Paraguay and Costa Rica won one point each after the first round of Group A.
