To continue fighting in the tournament, the Costa Ricans needed a victory in the match with Colombia. Moreover, it was desirable to score a lot, since in the event of the defeat of the Americans by the Paraguayans, the goal difference would be calculated between the national teams of Paraguay and Costa Rica. The team that became the main sensation at the World Cup in Brazil in 2014 (Costa Rica) did their best for their part - they won a victory over Colombia.

The match Colombia - Costa Rica turned out to be the most exciting so far in the tournament. The spectators saw five goals scored, the first of which was issued already in the second minute. Venegas from outside the penalty area sent the ball into the far top corner with a gorgeous kick. Costa Rica's national team took the lead 1: 0.

Colombia's footballers bounced back quickly. Already in the 6th minute, the score on the scoreboard became equal. Distinguished by Frank Fabre. In the future, the game was played with double-edged attacks, in which the Costa Ricans were more successful. Their attacking actions resulted in an own goal. The hero of the 6th minute Fabra cut the ball into his own goal. To the delight of their fans, the footballers of Costa Rica took the lead 2: 1 (the 34th minute was on the stopwatch).

In the second half, goals against both opponents continued. First, the Costa Ricans increased their lead. In the 58th minute, Brian Oviedo gave an assist to Celso Borges, whose shot to the bottom corner of the goal was accurate. The Costa Ricans took the lead with a difference of two goals. However, before the end of the match, the score on the scoreboard changed again.

Colombian leader Juan Cuadrado made an assist pass to Marlos Moreno Durana, who shot the goalkeeper from outside the penalty area. A strongly sent ball flew into the near corner of the goal. This goal was the last in the match.

The final score 3: 2 in favor of the Costa Rica national team only spoiled the mood of the Colombians before the playoffs. But for the winners themselves it did not bring the expected result: the Americans won their match against Paraguay. Thus, the Colombian national team is in second place in Group A, while Costa Rica drops to third place and is eliminated from the tournament.
