Germany's soccer team last won the continental championship 20 years ago at UEFA EURO 1996 in England. Two decades later, the Germans became world champions, but could not triumphantly finish the European championship again. In 2016, the German national team again assembled an excellent squad, which claims to win the main football tournament of the continent.
The head coach of the German national team, Joachim Loew, had another opportunity to assemble a strong team for a big tournament. The experienced footballers who took the lead in the 2014 Brazilian World Cup were joined by relatively new players who have already established themselves as leaders of the best clubs in the Old World.
For several years now, Manuel Neuer, the leader of the defense of Bayern Munich, has occupied the first number in the gates of the German national team. The other two goalkeepers announced for the tournament are Barcelona's Marc-André ter Stegen and Bayer Liverkusen's Bernd Leno.
Philippe Lam will not be on the defensive for UEFA EURO 2016. But even without him, the team's defensive line looks impressive. As expected, the greatest representation of the Germans in this line is from Bayern (Jerome Boateng, Joshua Kimmich) and Borussia Dortmund (Julian Weigl, Mats Hummels). In addition to them, the application included: Shkodran Mustafi (Valencia), Benedict Hevedes (Schalke 04), Antonio Rudiger (Roma) and Jonas Hector from Cologne.
Germany's midfield looks very balanced and strong. Here players are gathered not only from clubs in Germany, but also from Italy, England and Spain (from all four top European championships). The full roster of Joachim Lev's midfielders is as follows: Mario Götze (Bayern), Emre Can (Liverpool), Julian Draxler (Wolfsburg), Toni Kroos (Real Madrid), Leroy Sane (Schalke 04)), Sami Khedira (Juventus), Bastian Schweinsteiger (Manchester United), Andre Schürrle (Wolfsburg), Mesut Ozil (Arsenal).
In the attack, the Germans have only three players. However, this does not mean the weak attacking potential of the German national team, because among the team's midfielders there are many players who specialize in the functions of sharpening the game at the enemy's goal.
Only experienced Fovrads were included in the German bid in the attack line, including Mario Gomez, who now plays for Turkish Besiktas, Lukas Podolski, also playing in the Turkish Championship at the Galatasaray club, and Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller.
