The German football club Fortuna from Düsseldorf currently play in the Second Bundesliga, the second most professional league in Germany. The team's uniform is red and black, the away uniform is creamy.
From the history of the club
In 1895, a gymnastics club was founded in Düsseldorf called Turnverein Flingern (after the name of the former suburb, and today one of the urban areas). A little later, two more clubs appeared - Düsseldorfer Fußballklub Spielverein and FK Alemania 1911. In 1919, all three organizations merged under the name Düsseldorfer Turn - und Sportverein Fortuna ("Düsseldorfer Thurn - und Sportverein Fortuna").
In 1933, the Fortuna team became the champion of Germany. It was this year that became the peak point in the history of the club's development. At the final competitions, the team players did not concede a single ball into their own net. The match against Forverts-Rasensport (Gleiwitz) ended with a score of 9: 0; the game against Arminia (Hannover) - 3: 0; with Eintracht (Frankfurt am Main) - 4: 0; with Schalke 04 - 3: 0.
After the 1996-1997 season, the football club was eliminated from the German top league and played in the lower leagues. In the 2011-2012 season, the club achieved third place in the Second Bundesliga, and then, in a bitter struggle, won the right to play again in the top division after a 15-year hiatus.
It was in this season that the team received not the most flattering glory because of the antics of its fans. The second play-off against Hertha Berlin was played at Fortuna's home court in Dusseldorf. The game was interrupted several times due to the hooliganism of the fans, who began to celebrate the obvious already at that time Fortuna's entry into the Bundesliga a little early. One of these fan actions interrupted the match for more than 20 minutes.
The police had to literally take back the field from the happy fans.
Later, "Hertha" filed a claim for the results of the match in the sports arbitration court in Frankfurt am Main. Nevertheless, the referee Hans Lorenz considered the claims of the Berliners unfounded and left the results of the game unchanged.
Players and achievements
At various times, such players as Klaus Allofs, Thomas Allofs, Jupp Derval, Tony Turek, Darko Panchev, Sergey Juran, Dmitry Bulykin, Igor Dobrovolsky, Andrey Voronin and others have played in the Fortuna team.
In 2011, the club signed a contract with Tunisian player Karim Aouadi. According to the terms of the contract, Auadi had to play for Fortuna until the summer of 2013. However, in December 2011 the contract was terminated. As the official reason, the club's management named the language barrier, because of which the player could not interact with the team.
The main achievement of the club today remains the title of German champion in 1933.
Twice (in 1979 and in 1980) the team won the German Cup. In 2009 she became the silver medalist of the Third League of Germany.
