Sampdoria is a football club from Genoa (Italy). Today he plays in Serie A - the top division of the Italian football league. The colors of the club are blue, red, white and black.
About the club
In 1891, the Sampierdarenese football team was created in Genoa. Later, in 1927, the Andrea Doria club appeared. In 1946, both teams merged. This is how the Unione Calcio Sampdoria ("Sampdoria") club was born.
Interestingly, Sampdoria shares its home stadium - Luigi Ferraris with 35,536 spectators - with another Genoese team - Genoa. The matches between these teams are called "Lantern Derby". The name of the confrontation comes from the lighthouse in Genoa.
The nicknames of the team and its players are "blucherkyati", "Sampa" and "Doria".
Achievements and players
Once in its history, in 1991, Sampdoria became the champion of Italy. In the same year, the team won the national Super Cup. The club has won the country's cup four times. This was in 1985, 1988, 1989 and 1994. In 1990, Sandoria won the Cup Winners' Cup. In the final match, the club defeated the team "Anderlecht" (Belgium). The score was 2-0. Two years later, in 1992, Sampdoria reached the UEFA Champions League final. However, in the final meeting, the team lost to Barcelona (Spain) - 0: 1.
The 2010-2011 season was unsuccessful for the team.
In the 2010-2011 season, having failed the domestic championship, the club was relegated to Serie B and settled on the 18th line of the standings. As a result, even before the start of the next football season, the club's management decided on a number of changes in the team's line-up. In addition, the head coach was replaced. The team was led by Gianluca Aztori. However, the new mentor also failed to bring the club back to the top division. Then, in the middle of the season, he was also replaced - by Giuseppe Yachini.
The new head coach managed to bring the team to the sixth place in the standings. This made it possible to play in the playoffs and compete for an exit in Serie A.
In the semifinals, Sampdoria met the Sassuolo team. On aggregate, the Genoese managed to reach the final of the playoffs. In the first final game, Sampdoria beat the Varese team at home with a score of 3: 2. During the second match, the team held a draw, and only at the end of the game was the winning goal scored, which brought the club back to Serie A.
