Instructions

Step 1

The decision on the venue for the Ice Hockey World Championship is made several years before its start. The 2012 championship was held in two countries at once, Sweden and Finland, while the main hosts of the tournament were the Finns. The games of the 2013 World Cup, according to a decision made on May 8, 2009 in the city of Bern during the 2009 World Cup, will be held from May 3 to 19 again in the same countries, but this time the main host will be Sweden. In 2012, the Russian team became the world champion, winning all their meetings.

Step 2

According to the current regulations, 14 best European teams will take part in the next world hockey championship: the national teams of Austria, Belarus, Germany, Denmark, Latvia, Norway, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Finland, France, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Sweden and two teams from North America - national teams of Canada and the USA.

Step 3

All 16 teams are divided into two groups. One (group H) included teams from Russia, Finland, Slovakia, USA, Germany, Latvia, France, Austria. The second (group S) includes the national teams of the Czech Republic, Sweden, Canada, Norway, Switzerland, Denmark, Belarus, Slovenia. According to the initial seeding, the Russian national team was supposed to play in group S, and the Czech national team in group N. However, by mutual agreement and with the permission of the International Ice Hockey Federation, they changed places. This was done for the convenience of fans from Russia, for whom it is easier and faster to get to Finland, where the Russian national team will play.

Step 4

Teams will play in their groups one meeting with each opponent, that is, seven matches. According to the results, four teams from each group with the highest score will get to the next round (quarterfinals). At this stage, the elimination game (playoffs) begins, matches are again played within the groups. The two winning teams from the first group meet in the semifinals with the two winners of the second group. The losing teams will play the match for third place, and the two winners will compete in the final for the title of the strongest hockey team in the world.
