For the first time, Belarus will host the world ice hockey tournament. The prestigious championship will take place in two ice palaces of this country - "Chizhovka-Arena" and "Minsk-Arena". All of them are located in Minsk.
Participants and regulations of the 2014 Ice Hockey World Cup
There are 16 national teams announced for the 2014 World Cup. At the qualifying stage, they are all divided into two groups - A and B - each will have eight teams. Within the groups, each team will play 7 matches. Therefore, 28 games will be played in each group.
In case of victory, the national team will receive 3 points, and its opponent will not be awarded points. In overtime, both teams will receive 1 point. Meanwhile, the team that scores a goal in the shootout will earn 1 more point in its piggy bank.
At the moment, the schedules of games with specific teams are known only for the qualifying round of the 2014 World Cup. Participants of the quarterfinals and finals will become known during the championship (approximately May 20). The playoffs will kick off on May 22nd and the tournament finals will take place on May 25th.
