Participants of the final of the Gagarin Cup 2015-2016

The intense matches of the three series of the Gagarin Cup playoffs determined the participants in the decisive battles of the main hockey club final in Europe. In the 2015-2016 season, CSKA Moscow and Metallurg Magnitogorsk won the right to take part in the battle for the prestigious trophy.

For the first time in history, the capital's army team made it to the final of the Gagarin Cup. In the 2015-2016 season, Kvartalnov's wards excelled in the regular season, so such a high stage of the knockout matches is not surprising for the CSK team. On the way to the final, the “army team” of Moscow overcame the resistance of the Slovak “Slovan”, “Torpedo” from Nizhny Novgorod and St. Petersburg “SKA”.

The winner of the eastern conference of knockout matches was the winner of the 2013-2014 Gagrin Cup - Metallurg from Magnitogorsk. In the KHL regular season, Magnitka was content with the second place in the East, but this did not prevent the Urals from overcoming Avtomobilist, Siberia and Salavat Yulaev in the playoffs.
