With proper braking, you can reduce falls and avoid injury.

Step 1

Choose a flat, spacious and preferably deserted place for training. Evaluate if you can skate without much effort.

Remember which leg is your supporting leg. As a rule, for right-handers it is the right, and for left-handers - the left. On the skateboard, place your legs like this: the supporting leg in the back, the second in the front.

Start moving. To do this, place your other foot on the front edge of the skate, and push off the ground with the pivot foot. Don't push too hard. Learning to brake at high speed is much more difficult.

After starting the movement, place your supporting foot on the back of the board. You are now moving forward while standing flat on the skateboard.

Step 2

To slow down, move your skating leg closer to the rear edge of the skate and shift your body weight onto it. To do this, the supporting leg can be slightly bent at the knee.

To stop completely, lower your supporting foot to the surface and slow down slightly with the sole.

The above method is only suitable for flat areas. Also keep in mind that regularly braking in this way is a death sentence for your shoe.

Step 3

You can use another method of skate braking.

Take the starting position, as described above: the supporting leg at the back, the second in the control from the front. Start moving.

To brake, move your supporting leg closer to the rear edge of the skateboard, transfer your body weight to it, and press your heel against the edge of the board. In this case, the front edge of the board should be in the air. If you feel yourself losing your balance, jump off the board.

For quick braking, you can press the rear edge of the board into the ground.

Step 4

And for a snack - a way of extreme braking. Not recommended for beginners.

As you move, press your second (front) leg into the front edge of the board. The trailing edge will begin to rise. And at that moment, when he almost looks into the sky, jump off the board and catch the skate with your right hand.
