Hunting skis are very different from conventional skis in both appearance and construction. These differences are due to their functions. There are three types of hunting skis: golitsy, camus and combined. The kamus ones got their name due to the fact that kamus is strengthened on their sliding surface - a finely dressed, hard-haired skin of the lower part of the legs of an elk, deer, or horse.

The camus is located with a certain slope of the hair (along the course of the ski), it is the camus hair that prevents hunting skis from sliding backward on the slopes and helps to easily move forward. However, camus skis get wet, heavy and uncontrollable. Therefore, some hunters prefer combination skis. In these, the sliding surface is covered only with a strip of kamus.

Skis-golitsy before hunting must be coated with a special ointment. It usually consists of three parts molten wax and one part stearin / fish oil mixture. However, experienced hunters make ointments for different temperature conditions.
Step 5
When it thaws to -10 ° C, the ointment is made from three parts of paraffin, two parts of brown wax and one part of tar. A lower temperature ointment contains three parts wax, one part stearin, one part fish oil, a small amount of tar and rosin. Before hunting, you should heat the sliding surface of the ski-golitsy, rub it with ointment, and then polish it to a shine.
Step 6
Another attachment will make skiing hunting easier in winter. It will be about an aluminum stopper, which will not allow skis to slide down a steep slope and will help to easily overcome it. Round off an aluminum plate 15 cm long and equal to the width of the ski on one side and roll it into a tube on the other.
Step 7
Insert a stainless wire into the tube, fix it in the form of a bracket on the heels of the skis. When driving on flat terrain, the brake plates are fixed with clamps, when lifting, the clamps are released and the plates prevent the skis from sliding backwards.
Step 8
The ski carrier must also be prepared for winter hunting. With hunting skis, it should be strong and, at the same time, easy to release the leg if necessary, for example, when falling. Some hunters specially sheathed ski bindings with stocking bags made of dense fabric. It is very convenient, the snow does not get into the shoes, the skis do not become heavier, and can be removed easily.
