The 2012 Summer Olympics will be jubilee and will be held in London from July 27 to August 12. The UK will host the Olympics for the third time. Preparations for this event began long ago and became the most expensive in history.
London's candidacy to host the Thirtieth Summer Olympic Games was accepted by the Olympic Committee in 2006. Since then, England has spent a lot of labor and money on organizing this large-scale event. Over the past year, 42 inspections were carried out at 28 sports facilities, which received a total of 350 thousand spectators. The Sports Committee confirmed the city's readiness to receive guests from all over the world and the fulfillment of all the promises of the organizers.
The Olympic Stadium on Marshgate Lane in the Stratford area was specially built for this event. The construction site for this facility has been prepared since 2007, construction of the facility began in 2008. This stadium will be able to accommodate up to 80 thousand spectators. It will become the third largest in the country. On May 5, 2012, the stadium was inaugurated under the slogan “2012 hours before the Olympics”. But only the lower tier of this structure will become permanent. All upper tiers will be dismantled after the Olympics.
For sports such as swimming, diving, synchronized swimming, construction of a water center began in July 2008. This indoor facility includes a 50m swimming pool and a 25m diving pool. The construction of this structure was completed in June 2011.
The famous All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club was rebuilt especially for the Olympic Games. This club has already hosted the tennis tournament of the IV Olympic Games. For the XXX Olympic Games in 2009, a retractable roof was built over it, this will allow competitions to be held in any weather and will make the spectators more comfortable.
The Olympic Park in Stratford (East London), erected on vacant industrial land, is completely ready and awaiting its guests. This complex includes the Olympic Village, the Aquatics Center and the Olympic Stadium.
In addition to the construction of facilities directly related to the Olympic Games, other large-scale work is underway to prepare the city for a huge influx of tourists. A new station square has been built at King's Cross station. This summer it will become the main transport hub, providing links to the Olympic Park in east London. Also, a new lobby has opened at St Pancras Station, from where express trains will depart directly to Stratford.
Notices with information about the passage of "Olympic tracks", about the location of separate transport lanes for guests and participants of the Games, and about the schedule of road closures associated with the holding of marathons are posted throughout the city. This Olympiad promises to be the most organized.
