The next summer Olympic Games, the thirtieth in a row, will be held in London from July 27 to August 12, 2012. London has already hosted the Olympics twice - in 1908 and 1948, and will be the first city to host it three times. He was awarded this honor in a difficult struggle with four contenders: Paris, Madrid, New York and Moscow. The fate of the vote was decided only in the fourth round, London won against Paris with a difference of 4 votes.
The emblem of the Olympics is a complex composition in the form of four irregular polygons, between which there is a much smaller quadrangle. As conceived by the creators, these polygons remind of the date of the 2012 Olympics. On one polygon is the word London, on the other - five Olympic rings. It must be said frankly that the emblem of the Olympics has caused very contradictory responses, even accusations that it resembles a swastika.
Two stylized figures became the mascots of the Olympic Games - the drops were named Wenlock and Mandeville. Both talismans have one eye. As with the emblem, they generated a wide variety of responses, and not all of them were positive.
Competitions will be held in this way. Most of the sports facilities are located within the so-called "Greater London", divided into three zones (Olympic, river and central). In the Olympic zone, there is a stadium where, after the opening of the games, athletics competitions will be held, there is a water center, a cycle track and a BMX track, a field hockey field, basketball and handball arenas. An exhibition center is located in the river zone, where competitions in such sports as boxing, fencing, judo, taekwondo, wrestling, table tennis and weightlifting will be held. Nearby, at the Greenwich Arena, basketball, gymnastics and badminton competitions will be held. In Greenwich Park - in equestrian sports and modern pentathlon, and in the artillery barracks - in shooting. In the central area, which includes the famous Wembley Stadium, football players, tennis players, archers, etc. will compete.
Outside Greater London, there will be sailing, rowing, kayaking and canoeing competitions, a mount bike, as well as part of a football tournament. In a matter of weeks, sports fans will see this wonderful show - the Olympics.
