Media representatives reported that Mick Schumacher is close to signing a contract with Ferrari - he should become a student of the Italian team's racing academy. According to journalists, the son of the seven-time champion chooses between Mercedes and Ferrari, but more and more tends to sign a contract with Scuderia.
The two leading F1 teams this year hinted at their interest in the son of seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher - Mick won the last Formula 3 European Championship, one of the most prestigious junior series.
The young man from the first steps in karting did not suffer from a lack of attention - thanks to his stellar surname, and after the success in Euro F3 he began to be considered one of the most promising young racers.
Therefore, it is not at all surprising that Mercedes and Ferrari this year hinted at their interest in the son of the legendary driver.
During the recent FIA awards ceremony, the head of the Silver Arrows, Toto Wolff, recalled the young German: “This year Mick won the European Formula 3 with a Mercedes engine, and this is a great result, but alas it is not part of the Mercedes youth program. I have no doubt that he has the potential to become a successful Formula 1 driver. Perhaps one day he will be driving our team's car …"
And Maurizio Arrivabene, in the summer, gave a clear message to young Schumacher: “Having a surname that is part of the history of Ferrari, it is obvious that Maranello's doors will always be open for him. But let him make his own decision …”.
Indeed, until now, Schumacher Jr. was able to independently finance his career in junior formulas and had the opportunity not to tie his hands with an agreement with any of the Formula 1 teams.
For a long time he played as part of the K team, which is traditionally associated with Scuderia, but unlike his many partners, most of whom were members of the Ferrari Racing Academy, he did not have a business relationship with Maranello.
Finally, the guy grew up and was one step away from Formula 1. And it looks like the time has come to independently choose the team that will put him behind the wheel of the Formula 1 car.
According to Motorsport.com, both Mercedes and Ferrari made an offer to Schumacher, and Mick, although he hasn't signed a single agreement, is very close to it.
In the near future, Mick may sign a junior agreement with Scuderia, with whom his father won five F1 championships - with a team that is now actively promoting another young talent - Charles Leclair.
In 2019, Schumacher will debut in Formula 2 as part of the same K - and it was with this stable that Leclair won the title in 2017 in the first season in this series. The competition in the Upper Junior Championship is expected to be much higher next season, so it will be interesting to see how Mick handles it.
Anyway, if Schumacher officially signs an agreement with Ferrari, it will be a very emotional moment for all fans of Scuderia and Michael. And further history will be written on the track.
