The German national team won with a minimum score (1 - 0). However, four points were enough for the American to reach the playoffs from second place in the group. They were ahead of Portugal by the difference between goals scored and conceded.
In the 1/8 finals, the US team met with the Belgian team. 90 minutes of the match ended with a goalless draw. Only in overtime was the winner determined, who became the European footballers (2 - 1). The Americans looked very dignified in that match, although there was a definite advantage of the European players.
The final result of the US team is considered very decent. The team was able to advance from the difficult group to the playoff stage of the world championship, where they lost only in extra time.
