The Olympic movement is constantly improving, however, unfortunately, in addition to the positive, there are also negative trends in its development. However, the IOC pays a lot of attention to the problems of the Games and tries to solve them to the best of its ability.

There are many positive trends among the main trends in the modern Olympic movement. This, in particular, concerns the organization of the Youth Olympic Games. The first summer Games began to be held only in 2010, and the winter ones - in 2012. The predecessors of the Youth Olympics were world competitions, in which junior athletes took part, whose age ranged from 14 to 18 years old. The purpose of organizing such events was the desire to involve young people in the official Olympic movement, to help juniors realize their talents, and also to find strong athletes who will be worthy to represent their countries at the next Games.

Another positive trend was the gradual involvement of women in the Olympic movement and the correction of gender asymmetries. Until 1981, not a single woman was a member of the IOC, since the decision on the composition of the Committee was taken by its members, i.e. men. Even in 1999, out of 113 people in the IOC, there were only 13 women, and women's sports in the Olympics began to be recognized after 2000, when athletes at the Sydney Olympics tried to prove that they could compete with dignity. The attitude towards women's sports remains ambiguous even now, however, positive trends in this matter have emerged.

Unfortunately, there is also a certain amount of negativity. Despite the fact that according to the statements of the IOC members, the main goal of the modern Olympic movement is to improve mutual understanding between citizens of different countries, the opposite trend is observed. Back in 1964, during a football match as part of the Olympics, fans, dissatisfied with the actions of the referees, started a fight, in which more than 300 people died and more than 600 were seriously injured. The Olympic ideology, which is based on love, mutual understanding and justice, does not always work and, unfortunately, the results of the Games often become the reason for serious scandals. An example is the Salt Lake City Olympics.

And, finally, another unpleasant tendency was the excessive politicization of the movement. Individual athletes, or even entire countries, arrange boycotts or, even worse, demonstrate complete disrespect, demonstratively violating the rules of the event. Even the 2014 Sochi Olympics are controversial, and US congressmen are even proposing a joint US-European boycott. Unfortunately, few politicians understand how destructive such actions are for the Olympic movement as a whole.
