On July 30, 2012, at the London Olympics, the men's all-around artistic gymnastics competition was held. The following results were obtained: 1st place for Chinese gymnasts (275, 997 points), second place for athletes from Great Britain (271, 711 points) and third place for Ukraine (271, 526 points). Gymnasts from Japan were only in fourth place. Throughout the competition, the Japanese were confidently going second, but two falls in a row on a horse left them behind the winners.

Ukrainian and British athletes were already preparing to celebrate the success when the Japanese national team filed a protest against the result. This happened after the announcement of the results, so the athletes were confident in their victory. The representatives of Japan were not satisfied with the score of Kohei Uchimura in the final exercise on the horse - he received 13, 466 points. Despite the fact that the Japanese athlete fell from the projectile during the performance, which is considered a gross mistake, the judges found an opportunity to revise his assessment - it was raised by 0.7 points.

As a result, the overall result of the Japanese team increased to 271.952 points, which allowed them to take the second place. Thus, the gold remained with the Chinese athletes, the silver passed to the Japanese, and the British, having lost their silver, remained with the bronze. The Ukrainian gymnasts, to the great regret of the whole country, were left without a medal.

The result of the all-around competition is evaluated according to the assessments of six exercises: freestyle, vault, parallel bars, crossbar, rings and horse. For the second consecutive Olympics, the Chinese national team unconditionally wins first place.

Unfortunately, the Russians David Belyavsky, Denis Ablyazin, Alexander Balandin, Igor Parkhomenko and Emin Garibov took only sixth place at these competitions with a score of 269, 603 points. The fans pinned great hopes on them, since after the qualifying competition they were second, but mistakes in the vault and on the horse were critical for our team.
