The Games of the XXX Summer Olympics in London ended on 12 August 2012 and the last sets of awards of the sports forum were drawn on the same day. In the final table of the unofficial medal standings, Russia turned out to be slightly lower than the fans hoped and the sports experts expected.
Before the start of the games, experts believed that the Russian Olympians, if they did not compete with the undisputed favorites - the Americans and the Chinese, would take their place immediately after them. However, this did not happen - Russia took a long time to get out of its place at the end of the top ten leaders in the medal standings, and took the fourth line in the final table. The total number of awards won by our athletes (83) is 10 times higher than the result shown at the previous Olympic Games in Beijing. This is the third London Games figure, only six units behind the collection assembled by Chinese athletes. However, in the medal standings, the priority is given to the quality of awards, and the British Olympic team has more gold first places than the Russians - 29 versus 24.
Most of all, our athletes climbed the podium - in different disciplines of this sport they won 18 awards, 8 of which were gold. The second most medal contribution was made by gymnasts (8 medals), although only Aliya Mustafina was able to achieve the highest award. But judokas out of 5 medals had three of the highest standard - the first eight days of the games, only the Olympians of this sports discipline brought Russia gold. And the most fruitful for the awards for our compatriots was the penultimate, 15th day of the forum. On 11 August they set the London Olympics record for the number of awards, winning 6 gold, 4 silver and 5 bronze medals.
There were only 436 athletes in the Russian Olympic team, among whom women had a slight advantage - 228 against 208. The medal contribution to the final result of the national team of the country was distributed in approximately the same way - the "weaker sex" won 6 more awards (44 against 38), although the score is equal to gold medals (12 each).
The Americans won the medal standings of the 2012 Olympics - the US team has only 104 awards, of which 46 have the highest standard. Athletes from the Chinese national team took 88 podium places, and 38 times it was his highest step. The British have won 29 gold medals, and the total number of awards they have collected is 65.
