Snowboarding is one of the youngest Olympic disciplines. This sport, which consists of descending from a snowy slope on a special board, was included in the program of the Olympic Games in 1998 during a competition in the Japanese city of Nagano. Snowboard is divided into the following disciplines: border cross, slalom, parallel slalom, giant slalom, parallel giant slalom, super giant slalom. In Russia, this sport is still poorly developed, but some of our compatriots have already achieved quite high results.
Results of the Vancouver Olympics in snowboarding
At the last Olympic Games, Russian Stanislav Detkov took fourth place in the giant slalom competition. Moreover, he had every chance to win a bronze medal, but the gates did not open at the start and our athlete fell, naturally, showing as a result the worst result in comparison with the opponent (he was 0, 96 seconds behind him). Considering that his opponent, a Frenchman named Mathieu Bosetto, broke the rules while passing the track, then our Olympic Committee had every reason to file a protest and achieve a re-start. However, for some unknown reason, this protest did not come from the committee, and Stanislav had to be content with a "wooden" medal.
The best snowboarder from the Russian national team, Ekaterina Tudegesheva, showed the tenth result at the competition.
Who can join the Russian Olympic snowboard team at the games in Sochi
Of course, the already mentioned Detkov and Tudegesheva will be included in the team of snowboarders. Moreover, Ekaterina won the World Cup twice after Vancouver. This happened in the overall standings and in the parallel slalom.
For sure, Alena Zavarzina will also join our team, who, although unsuccessfully performed in Vancouver, became the world champion in the parallel giant slalom next year.
Brother and sister Andrei and Natalya Sobolev are considered very strong and promising snowboarders. Especially Natalia, who took seventh place at the World Championship last year, and fourth at one of the World Cup stages.
Ekaterina Ilyukhina, a multiple winner and medalist of the Russian championships, has good chances to be included in the national team. And a very young (she is only 15 years old), but very promising girl named Christina Paul can be included in the reserve team. The final lists of participants in the Olympiad are not yet ready.
