Evgeny began his career in 1974 at the Avangard skating rink. Boris Rublev became his coach. With his first partner, Elena Krykanova, Evgeny Platov won the World Junior Championship three times in a row.
After that, he paired up with Larisa Fedorinova, with whom they took fourth place in the USSR championships twice in a row.
In 1989 Oksana Grischuk became Platov's partner. With her, they won the Olympic Games twice. However, in 1998, they parted ways. Oksana went to conquer Hollywood, and Maya Usova became Eugene's new partner. Together they performed at professional ice shows under the direction of Tatiana Tarasova. With Maya, they won the Professional World Championship.
In 2006, Evgeny Platov performed in tandem with the model and actress Anna Azarova on the show "Dancing on Ice".

The personal life of Evgeny Platov was not as successful as his sports career. In 1992, Eugene was married to actress Maria Anikanova. But in 1995 they divorced, having lived together for three years.
