With the onset of the winter season, every skier begins to prepare for the upcoming skiing and mastering new ski slopes. So that the skis do not fail at the most crucial moment, they need proper care. How and how should you lubricate the sliding surface of the skis?

Ski lubrication

All ski lubricants are divided into grip ointments and paraffin glide ointments. The grip ointment should be applied to a clean, dry ski surface at room temperature. Solid ointments should be applied in thin layers, each rubbing separately. After this manipulation, the skis need to be cooled for twenty minutes at a temperature of -10 and half an hour at a higher temperature. The last coat of hard ointments is usually applied outdoors.

The highest quality and most popular ski lubricants are Finnish, Norwegian and Italian ointments.

In case of snow or freezing temperatures, the ski smear should be applied outdoors and wait for it to cool down for half an hour. If moisture gets into the grease, it can freeze up, so before applying the ointment, you need to warm up a little and ski a certain distance. If the skis slip, you need to put an additional layer of lubricant on them, and if they do not ride well, lubricate them with solid ointment.

Ski lubrication rules

When lubricating wooden or plastic skis with paraffin, apply it to the back and front surfaces, and apply the holding ointment to the middle. The molten paraffin wax covers the skis with droplets, which are then smoothed out with an iron and cooled for fifteen to twenty minutes. The remaining paraffin wax is removed from the sliding surface with a special scraper, and the surface itself is processed with nylon fabric from toe to heel.

When leveling melted paraffin drops with an iron, you need to make sure that they do not smoke - for this, the iron does not need to be heated to more than 150 degrees.

Lubricant for acceleration is applied to the skis outdoors, literally two to three minutes before the start. If the snow is loose, you can use knurls, and to improve grip, the sliding surface should be cleaned and sanded, then greased with a special ointment and smoothed with a hot iron. Then the skis need to be cooled. When skiing on hard snow, skis must be lubricated with soil, which is applied to the holding surface, melted with an iron and cooled outside. A semi-solid ointment is applied on top of the soil (in thin layers). When processing skis with liquid ointment, it must be squeezed out of the tube and applied to the sliding surface at intervals of two centimeters, leveling the ointment with a scraper at room temperature.
