Together with the departure of the Russian national football team from the final tournament of the European Championship, the work of the Dutch specialist Dick Advocaat also ended. Now the Russian Football Union (RFU) will have to choose and negotiate with a new head coach for the first national team. Experts and fans have named nearly a dozen possible candidates for the post.
The unsuccessful performance of the national team at Euro 2012 led to the fact that not only the head coach of the national team was replaced, but also the head of the RFU - its head, Sergei Fursenko, resigned from this post. Since it is this organization that concludes the contract with the head of the national team, the appointment of a new head coach should not be expected before Fursenko's successor is chosen. In the meantime, football experts are discussing possible candidates, the list of which has already included almost a dozen names known both throughout the world and only in Russia.
The most famous names among the currently free foreign coaches who have the opportunity to lead the Russian national team are Joachim Lev, Josep Guardiola, Fabio Capello, Luciano Spalletti and Bernd Schuster. Two of them - German Lev and Italian Capello - had previously trained the national teams that took part in the 2012 European Championship and advanced on it further than our team. And the British, whom Capello brought to Euro 2012, and the Germans under the leadership of Lev, were knocked out of the drawing by the finalist of this tournament - the Italian national team. Josep Guardiola is best known for his five-year leadership of the strongest team on the continent - Spanish Barcelona, and Luciano Spalletti, the coach of the Russian champion of the last two years, does not need to be introduced to football fans in our country. Less known as the coach is the German Schuster, whose most significant team was Real Madrid for less than a year.
Of the Russian coaches, the current president of the football club "Alania" Valery Gazzaev can lead the national team. His name in our country is associated with the period of dominance in Russian football by Moscow CSKA. Valery Georgievich also has some experience of leading the first and youth national teams of the country, although it was not as successful as his experience in club football. The rest of the domestic coaches among the possible candidates are still working with different national teams - Yuri Krasnozhan leads the second team, Nikolay Pisarev - the youth team, and Alexander Borodyuk is the assistant coach of the first national team.
