In a sport such as orienteering, it is important to place the marks correctly throughout the entire distance. These will be the checkpoints for the serifs and will determine the winner. There are a few simple rules to follow.
It is necessary
- - Map;
- - control serifs;
- - a hammer;
- - nails.
Instructions
Step 1
Choose the most convenient locations and practice marking in advance. Everything initially depends on the area where the competition takes place. Of course, you shouldn't put your marks in the lowlands or near the swamp if the competition takes place in the forest. It is important that every athlete can easily install the serif and not get injured at the same time!
Step 2
Observe the correct distance. There are many types of tracks in orienteering. They can run from 1 or several kilometers to marathon distances. This is the starting point for choosing the correct distance between checkpoints. Place them within 2 or 3 hundred meters from each other. For long distances - up to a kilometer.
Step 3
Consider the number of participants. Observe safety measures when approaching the checkpoint. Imagine what would happen if several dozen athletes were pushing each other and trying to score. To do this, choose a place for marks, around which there will be several meters of clean space without stones, sticks or logs. Otherwise, it will be a rather dangerous activity.
Step 4
Place your marks on a small hill. Make checkpoints on a hillock or tree, around which there is 2-3 meters of space. Of course, in this case, it will be easier for the athletes to find the checkpoint, but they will easily mark and run to the next item. Usually this method is used at medium distances in wooded areas.
Step 5
Set the tags as soon as you find a suitable place. Nail them to the soft surface of wood or other material. Secure them properly so that they cannot wobble. This is for safety reasons and to prevent equipment damage during the competition. The mark buttons should be clearly visible, located above the control panel.
