Ice skates are simple and unpretentious winter sports equipment. However, even they require proper care. Lack of proper maintenance and indifference to the simple rules of using skates will quickly render them unusable. Follow the rules below and your skates will last you more than one season!

Step 1
After skating, be sure to remove snow from the blades of your skates and wipe them dry. If the blades remain wet and are stored as such, the blades will corrode. This can damage the sharp surface of the blades. For long-term storage, coat the blades with any type of machine oil.
Step 2
Dry your skates after each skate. When you get home, remove them from your bag, rinse them if necessary, and be sure to leave them to dry until they are completely dry. If you ignore this rule, then two risk factors appear at once - the same corrosion of the blades and the wetting of the inner insulation of the boot. If the boot is wet inside for a long time, this will not only lead to an unpleasant odor, but also the insulation will degrade and lose its properties.
Step 3
If your skates are laced, make sure all holes are laced and pulled evenly. Excessive stress on one of the lace anchor points will tear the boot at this point.
Step 4
Sharpen your skates in a timely manner. The longer you skate, the more the sharpening will be damaged. If you sharpen skates at home and by hand, then restoring a partially damaged sharpening is much easier than sharpening everything from scratch. Unsharpened skates lose their stability on the ice and can cause numerous falls.
Step 5
Always protect your skate blades with protective covers and pads.
