Instructions

Step 1

Basically, the blades of the skates are sharpened with a radius of 11 to 15 mm, which is called "under the groove" (or "groove"). This is the name of the groove that goes from one edge of the runner to the other. Accordingly, the training process and the quality of skating directly depend on how professionally the skates are sharpened. Such a "groove" is needed to create clear edges - external and internal. If you ride correctly, then the sliding process occurs on only one of these edges. The ridge is constantly tilted. The groove gradually becomes equal during the workout. Therefore, the correct sharpening requires its restoration.

Step 2

Masters who are professionally engaged in sharpening skates strongly do not recommend doing this specific activity on their own. It is best to take your skates to a specialized workshop. If skates are sharpened without professional equipment, the overall sharpening quality will be unsatisfactory and the “grooves” will have different depths.

Step 3

But the professional sharpening machine practically repeats the profile of the skates. To check how well the skates are sharpened, just place them straight: if they really stand upright, then they sharpened the skates perfectly. The human factor is also important in this matter: if an experienced master is engaged in the work, he will do everything perfectly.

Step 4

Please note that the blades of skates cannot be sharpened many times in a row, because they are designed for a certain number of such sharpenings, after which the quality of skating begins to deteriorate significantly. To clean skates on time, you can buy a special tool that removes the teeth, which in turn helps to prolong the sharpening quality. This is a special stone that needs to be carefully treated with the surface of the blades. This process is not sharpening as such, but it can significantly stretch the periods between full sharpening.
