The human mind is prone to doubt the correctness of the intended goals. Doubt if I have enough strength. From a yoga perspective, doubt is one of the biggest obstacles to achieving your goals.
We doubt and, it turns out, we take a step forward, then a step back. As a result, we do not advance, but remain at the starting position. Doubt also does not allow us to drop what we have planned and do what we are sure of.
Because of this, a huge amount of energy is wasted, time passes, and we are marking time. Yoga encourages us to cast aside doubts and begin to fulfill our plans. You need to believe in yourself! Later, as we achieve what we want, our faith will grow naturally. But first, we need to put in some effort.
We set ourselves a goal, we fulfill it. Gradually, the complexity of the tasks increases and with them the faith in ourselves grows, the will is strengthened. And it becomes easier for us to control our minds. Consciousness is no longer tossed about, but is under our control.
Of course, to do all this, you need to strain! The costs will be on the part of both mental and physical processes. The ability to focus on one task requires the use of volitional efforts. But our will is precisely what develops when we apply it. If we don't use it in our lives, it doesn't get stronger.
In order to strengthen the will, we can turn to Raja Yoga. It contains many exercises for revealing volitional skills in us. This will help us, in the end, to cope with difficult life situations, and will also be a serious help, one might even say necessary, on the path of our spiritual development.
