How to choose the right helmet?
In order to choose the right helmet for rollerblading, which will best suit a particular situation and route, you should first of all designate the area where the skiing will take place. For example, skateparks and ramp helmets are suitable for riding on hard and completely flat surfaces such as asphalt.
The main advantage of the aforementioned helmets is the hard outer shell. It is sealed with a layer of microporous rubber and has a layer of foam rubber inside, which will protect the head from serious damage due to impact. Thus, ramp helmets and skatepark helmets are reinforced protection that is designed for powerful contact with hard surfaces.
In the event that a terrain with soft ground is chosen for the ski area, the so-called Bike Dirt helmets will be optimal. As for the outer crust, its characteristics are no different from the coatings of the helmet-ramp and skatepark, but the inner filler is different. It is tougher because the soil, sand or grass is softer. Inside there are polystyrene and foam rubber.
Roller Skating Helmets
It is noteworthy that "purebred" roller helmets do not exist in nature. Rather, there are types and subspecies of different helmets, which differ from each other not only in color and shape, but also in size, weight, outer and inner layers, and attachments.
Three groups of helmets can be distinguished separately. These are helmets for aggressive riding, bicycle helmets and structures, as it were, specially made for roller skating, although they can be used equally effectively in other sports. You can distinguish a bicycle helmet from a roller helmet if you pay attention to the visor, or, more precisely, to its absence. The mountain biking helmet has a small visor. The roller helmet does not have it.
But the most important thing in protection, if we talk specifically about helmets, is not their intended purpose, but rather sitting directly on the head of the roller. In order to correctly determine your size and, accordingly, the appropriate size of the head protector, it should be tried on.
The helmet should not dangle on the head, but it should not squeeze or press on the head either. The main thing is to make sure that all fasteners are in good working order, the internal fillers correspond to what is declared by the manufacturer, and also pay close attention to the color.
It seems that this is an insignificant detail, but at dusk or at night it becomes very important. You should not give your preference to helmets that are dark in color, since in the evening or at night they make a person invisible to other skaters, pedestrians and vehicle drivers.
