Born in Moscow in 1985, Alexander Ovechkin was drafted to the NHL in 2004 under the overall No. 1 draft. Already from the 2004-2005 season, Alexander began to defend the colors of the Washington Capitals club.
In his first season in the NHL (2005-2006), Alexander amazed the entire hockey world with his performance. In 82 games of the regular season, Ovechkin scored 52 goals and made 54 assists. This impressive performance earned Alexander the NHL Rookie of the Season award. In the vote, Ovechkin bypassed Sidney Crosby himself.
