The first spring drops remind ski lovers about preparing sports equipment for summer storage. It is not at all difficult to store skis correctly for a long time. All preparatory work can be done at home.

Step 1
Before starting preparatory work, wash the skis with any detergent and dry them away from heaters.
Step 2
Carefully inspect the skis from all sides, noting scratches, chips, and peeling varnish that have appeared during the winter.
Step 3
Sand all irregularities with fine sandpaper. The surface should be smooth and level.
Step 4
Apply 2-3 coats of varnish to the damaged areas. As a rule, this is the inner side of the ski, not in contact with the surface of the snow cover. Wait until the varnish is completely dry.
Step 5
It is better to store skis under preservative grease. It is applied to the sliding surface of the skis. The choice of lubricant depends on the material from which the skis are made.
Soak wooden walking skis in hot resin, ensuring that all irregularities are evenly covered. Cover plastic skis with base paraffin. If desired, you can slightly increase the thickness of the paraffin layer.
Step 6
Now the skis must be properly packaged.
Wooden skis are tied on two sides: at the bend of the bow and at the heel end. Secure the skis with holders or simply tie them tightly with a cord. Insert a spacer made of a wooden bar no thicker than 10 cm into the center of gravity. This protects against straightening of the socks, changes in rigidity and twisting.
Plastic skis do not lose their shape, they do not need a spacer, it is enough to simply tie at both ends for easy storage.
Step 7
Pack your skis in a cloth bag and keep them out of the sun. Otherwise, the protective grease will oxidize and damage the ski surface. This is why it is better to choose a utility room with a constant temperature for storage, rather than sunny balconies.
Step 8
Remember, the best storage position for skis is horizontal, supported by three points. If this is not possible, then hang the skis vertically. Make sure they do not touch the floor. So the skis will not lose their shape and will delight you with a good ride in the new ski season.
