In winter, the bike is not used, so where to keep it? How to store your bike so that it does not get damaged from long periods of inactivity? These questions are of concern to many cyclists at the end of autumn. It happens that the bike is stored on the balcony in winter, and in the spring the owner wonders where the rust on the chain comes from, why the tires are cracked and let air through.

Instructions

Step 1

Get your bike ready. Wash it and dry it. Inspect carefully, are there any breakdowns? In winter, you will have enough time to take your time to deal with everything that you did not have time for in the summer. Re-lubricate the chain before leaving the bike immobile for the winter, otherwise it may rust by spring.

Step 2

If you are going to keep the bike in the apartment, this can be limited, but if you take it to a cold place, then use a preservative lubricant for all chrome-plated parts and additionally wipe the mechanical assemblies with an oil rag, otherwise the metal elements of the bicycle may be corrosive from high humidity. Remove the batteries, if any. Tires need to be lubricated with glycerin from the inside and outside.

Step 3

It is best to keep your bike in the apartment in winter, but you can also keep it in the garage or on the glassed-in balcony. It is important that the humidity in the room is kept at the same level and kept low. When organizing a bike storage place, keep in mind that the sun can destroy all rubber parts: tires, cables, linkage elements and others.

Step 4

If you are going to store your bike for a long time, and winter is already a long time, then it is best to hang it. So the wheels will not experience prolonged static load, and the rubber will not be crumpled. It doesn't matter how you hang it, wheels up or down. If you are taking apart your bike before storing it, suspend the wheels.

Step 5

If there is no way to hang the bike, and you do not disassemble it for the winter, then do not forget to pump up the rubber every month so that the wheels remain elastic. The tires must not be allowed to flatten and the bike must not stand on the rims.
