On August 12, the XXX Olympic Games ended, which showed a lot of interesting things, opened new champions and delighted the audience with a magnificent show in honor of the opening and closing of this sporting event. For each team, this Olympics has become special in its own way. She also brought her victories and disappointments to the Russian team.
The participation of Russian athletes at the Olympics brought a lot of surprises to both themselves and their fans. Most of the victories and losses were unexpected for both sides. And, despite the fourth place in the final table of games, the Russians performed well, bringing with them 24 gold medals, 26 silver and 32 bronze medals.
The first gold medals of our country, which the judo team brought to the treasury, became an amazing victory. The first gold was won by Arsen Galstyan from Krasnodar, who defeated Japanese Hiroaki Hiraoku in the final in just 40 seconds. The second gold medal was won by Mansur Isaev, and the third - by Tagir Khaibulaev.
The victory of the men's volleyball team, which won gold in the fight against the Brazilian team, was also remembered for everyone. Which is especially pleasant, since the last time the USSR national team won this competition was in 1980.
Less unexpected, but no less pleasant were the gold medals of our athletes in synchronized swimming, individual all-around (Evgenia Kanaeva) and 20 km race walking - Elena Lashmanova finished in this competition with a record result - 1: 25.02. But the gold medalist in hammer throw Tatyana Lysenko was surprised by the record set from the first throw. Its achievement is 78, 18 meters.
And the bronze medal won by Russian basketball players was especially pleasant. After beating the Argentine national team in the match for third place, they climbed the podium for the first time in the history of the Olympic Games.
Our athletes were unsuccessful in shooting and fencing, where they almost always took prizes before. The women's volleyball team also did not live up to expectations, the limit of which was the quarterfinals and the game with the Brazilian national team.
A similar situation happened with the women's handball team, which won gold at the Beijing Olympics. She also only made it to the quarterfinals. The freestyle wrestlers were not pleased. And, of course, the main disappointment was the bronze medal of the Queen of the Air Elena Isinbayeva.
