In the winter of 2014, the first Winter Olympic Games in the history of our country will take place. In this regard, for several years now, large-scale work has been going on to prepare for such a significant event. And one of the unique projects timed to this event was the Sochi 2014 Cultural Olympics.
Goals and achievements of the 2014 Sochi Cultural Olympiad
The 2014 Sochi Cultural Olympics started in 2010. The goal of this project is to preserve and enhance the culture of our country, to involve every citizen of Russia in such a grand event as the 2014 Winter Olympic Games, as well as to demonstrate to the whole world the diversity of Russia's cultural heritage.
Within the framework of this project, each year was declared the year of a certain type of art. So, 2010 was devoted to cinema, 2011 - to theater, 2012 - to musical art. During these three years, spectacular festivals and concerts were held throughout the country with the participation of the best performers of classical and modern music, both Russian and foreign. Round tables and competitions were held, performances and installations were held, and iconic films were shown. The best of these events will be reflected in the finals of the Cultural Olympiad to be held in Sochi in 2014 during the Olympic Games.
Cultural Olympiad: Year of Museums
The present, 2013, is dedicated to museums. Within the framework of this project, the organizers have already presented and continue to present a hundred of the best cultural events to the residents of Russia and other countries. Numerous exhibitions, expositions, shows and competitions are held throughout the country, as well as master classes, forums and educational programs dedicated to exhibition art. At the exhibitions, viewers can get acquainted with the masterpieces of modern and classical art of different genres. Also this year, theatrical performances, concerts and other events are held within the framework of the Cultural Olympiad.
Thus, in the year of museums, the festival “Alluring Worlds. Ethnic Russia”with a unique project - the virtual Museum of the culture of the indigenous small-numbered peoples of Russia, in which more than 20 settlements of the country take part. A competition for children's art called "Sublime City, Inspired City" has started, as well as a cultural and educational project of 11 exhibitions "Mascots of the Olympic Games", representing all the animals that were the mascots of the Olympic and Paralympic Games of different years.
