The 2014 Olympic Games are not only an exciting sporting event, but also an extensive cultural program that will delight all lovers of art and entertainment.
The Sochi 2014 Cultural Olympiad is a large-scale project implemented in support of the Winter Olympic Games. The project has been operating since 2010. For four years, in support of the Olympics, the organizing committee held more than three thousand unique cultural events, which were attended by leading figures of cinematography, museum affairs, theatrical art, and the academic music scene. The best performances have been selected for the cultural program that guests and residents of Sochi will be able to see during the Olympics.
Concerts and performances
The opening of the Sochi 2014 cultural program was marked by a gala concert at the Sochi Organ Hall dedicated to the musical traditions of different nations. Starting from February 6, the concert venues of the resort town host events timed to coincide with the VII International Festival of Arts. The festival is held under the direction of the Honored Artist of the Russian Federation Yuri Bashmet. The original theatrical production of Eugene Onegin, starring Konstantin Khabensky and Ksenia Rappoport, deserves special attention. As part of the festival, the Winter Theater hosts a nightly screening of film versions of famous opera masterpieces: Carmen, La Traviata, The Magic Flute, Eugene Onegin and Rigoletto. Also noteworthy is the concert program "Viva, Italy!", In which the stars of the Italian music scene will perform the best works of their composers. The Theater of Nations announces another bright and colorful event - the play "Shukshin's Tales" starring Chulpan Khamatova and Yevgeny Mironov.
Spectators will be able to enjoy ballet performances performed by the world's best ballet companies, as well as attend jazz concerts by Nino Katamadze and Brian Lynch.
Exhibitions
Lovers of contemporary art will appreciate the spectacular Echo-Eco exhibition, which will feature the best exhibits in the field of video art. Attention is deserved by a jewelry exhibition with works of authorship by master Ilgiz Fazulyanov, as well as an exhibition of photographs "Images of Russia", representing all the diversity of Russian culture.
Open concert and exhibition venues regularly host free concerts and creative performances for everyone, transforming the Olympics from an exclusively sporting event into an event of international cultural level.
