Step 1
Despite the fact that the final part of the World Cup takes place every four years, together with the qualifying matches, the tournament continues for three years. At least six years before the start of the championship, the country in which it will be held is determined, preparation for the championship begins. The host country automatically gets a place in the final part of the tournament, hundreds of teams are competing for the remaining 31 tickets. For example, 204 teams participated in the 2010 World Cup.
Step 2
The number of seats allocated for participation in the football championship of the planet is not the same for different football federations and is determined by a number of indicators. Thus, in 2010, Europe was allocated 13 seats, North and South America - 8. Five seats went to Africa and five - Asia and Oceania. These packages were played in internal qualifying tournaments. According to the results of the qualifying round of the 2010 World Cup, the Russian national team did not manage to get into its final part.
Step 3
The final tournament takes place over a month. At the first stage, thirty-two teams are divided into eight baskets of four teams, with the "seeded" (strongest) participants getting the first places in their groups. This is done so that the strongest teams do not meet with each other at the group stage of the final. At the same time, even the weakest team has a chance to reach the final, showing a good game.
Step 4
Each group has a three-round tournament - that is, each team plays one match with three others. As a result, the first two teams from each group will advance to the next round.
Step 5
At the next stage, the remaining 16 teams start to play for elimination - the loser leaves the tournament. The only exception is the match for third place between the two teams that lost the semi-finals. The winner of the championship will carry the title of world champion for the next four years. In 2010, it was the Spanish national team, which defeated the Dutch team in the final. The third place was taken by the German national team.
Step 6
The 2014 World Championship will be held in Brazil, the qualifying round of the European part of the tournament will be held from September 7, 2012 to November 19, 2013. As in the previous championship, 13 teams from Europe will make it to the final part of the world championship.
