The Coastal Cluster is the seaside area for the Sochi Olympic Games next February. The center of the cluster is the Olympic Park, within which the competition venues are located within walking distance - the Fisht stadium, the Bolshoi Ice Palace, the Shaiba arena, the Ice Cube curling center, the Iceberg sports palace and the Adler Arena.
"Fisht" - from the Adyghe translates as "white head" or "gray-headed"
It is in this Olympic complex with a capacity of up to 40 thousand people, which got its name from the 2857-meter Caucasus Mountain Fisht, that the opening and closing ceremonies of the Sochi Games will take place.
The location of "Fisht" is unique, as the audience in it will be able to simultaneously see the snow-capped mountains in the north and the Black Sea in the south. In its shape, the stadium resembles a rocky cliff, which, according to the architects, will perfectly fit it into the panorama of the Caucasus Mountains.
After the Olympic Games, Fisht will be used as a stadium for football matches and as a venue for entertainment shows or concerts.
Large
Olympic ice hockey teams will compete in the Bolshoi Ice Palace in February. The capacity of the facility is 12 thousand people, who will be covered by a silvery spherical dome imitating a frozen drop of water.
In the future, according to the architects' plan, Bolshoi will become an excellent venue for international competitions. Moreover, within its framework, not only ice hockey championships will be held, but also figure skating championships, as well as sports ice dancing.
Arena "Puck"
This facility has already been successfully tested as part of the Four Nations sledge hockey competition in August-September this year. Its capacity is 7 thousand people.
The uniqueness of the "Washer" is that it is a portable structure with the function of complete dismantling and transfer for further construction in another convenient place.
Olympians and Paralympians participating in winter sports will compete within the walls of the Puck arena.
Ice cube
Operation of the Ice Cube Curling Center began back in 2012, after which in 2013 the facility hosted the February Wheelchair Curling Championship and the Junior World Championship at the beginning of last spring.
The capacity of the center is 3 thousand people. The main motives in its external design, as conceived by the designers, are the utmost brevity, accessibility and democracy.
Just like the "Washer", the "Ice Cube" belongs to the category of collapsible structures, it can be dismantled and erected in any other place on the territory of Russia.
Icebreg
Icebreg Winter Sports Palace has already hosted the Grand Prix Final in Figure Skating in 2012 and the World Cup in Short Track Speed Skating in February 2013.
The capacity of the facility is 12 thousand people. After the 2014 Olympic Games, Icebreg will continue to host world-class events.
The authors of the project in their work tried to convey the internationality of such competitions, since the word "iceberg" is pronounced in the same way and has a similar meaning in many languages of the world.
Adler-Arena
This facility will mainly host speed skating competitions, as was the case in March this year.
The Adler-Arena running track has a length of 400 meters and is designed in accordance with international chronometric indicators. This quality is designed to provide athletes with the most favorable conditions for competition.
After the end of the Olympic Games, the facility will be converted into a large trade and exhibition center.
