Perhaps, today, not a single plane takes off without insurance in the form of parachutes. Parachuting has become not only a spectacular and professional sport, but also an extreme entertainment. Professionals use parachutes of proven brands, but true amateurs sew canopies on their own.
It is necessary
lightweight and dense fabric
Instructions
Step 1
First of all, buy from the store a dense lightweight fabric (Bologna fabric or lining twill), strong silk or lavsan threads, thin nylon rope for slings and a narrow silk ribbon. Of course, professional parachutes are made from parachute silk in specialized workshops. However, there are many fun hobbies that also require small parachutes.
Step 2
Calculate the required area of the parachute, based on the mass of the device that will descend on it, and the required descent rate (the nominal descent rate for a person is 5ms). Calculation formulas can be taken from physics textbooks.
Step 3
Determine the circumference of the dome and divide it into wedges. Draw a pattern of one of the wedges on paper.
Shape the parachute according to the drawn drawing. Remember to cut a hole in the center of the dome for better planning.
Step 4
Sew the wedges together on a sewing machine with strong lavsan threads. Sew around the dome and around the center hole with silk tape. Make a loop of this tape in the middle of the edge of each wedge.
Step 5
Pass nylon cords or ropes into the loops, fasten with a reliable knot. The descent vehicle can be tied to the other end of the ropes.
