For mountain bikes and racing bikes, it is important to always have adjusted speeds and derailleurs. In stores, it is not always possible to pay due attention to this aspect. Even if this task fell on your shoulders, you can easily cope with it.

Instructions

Step 1

Adjust the reverse speeds. Choose the fastest speed at which the chain will land on the smallest sprocket. Set the forward speed to the middle sprocket. Your bike's derailleur should have two screws labeled L and H. Turn the High (H) screw until the derailleur roller is lined up with the smallest sprocket. Choose a slower speed, that is, the highest sprocket behind. Tighten the screw also until the roller is aligned with the large sprocket, but now marked with Low (L).

Step 2

Tighten the cable after completing the previous step. Remember to set the rear derailleur to maximum speed. Make sure the cable is firmly in the groove of the fixing bolt. Tighten the bolts. Pull the cable well. If in this case the chain will fall to smaller sprockets, loosen it with a special adjuster located at the end of the cable jacket. If it does not fit the large stars very clearly, tighten the cable by unscrewing the tension adjuster. For more fine tuning, use the directional control.

Step 3

Place the chain on the smallest sprocket in the front and the largest sprocket in the back. Pedal back a few turns. While turning the tension screw, make sure that the upper roller of the rear derailleur is as close as possible to the sprocket, but does not touch it. All this will make gear shifting as smooth as possible. Set maximum speed. Make sure that the roller does not touch the cassette sprocket even in the preset position.

Step 4

Now adjust the forward speeds as well. Loosen the cable and the screws securing the derailleur. Make the frame parallel to the stars and 3mm from the largest star. Leave the minimum speed. Loosen the cable and turn the screw marked L (Low) until there is a 1 mm gap between the frame and the chain. Screw the cable into the groove with a decent amount of tension. Do the same for the screw marked H (High). Make finer adjustments with the knob on the shifter.
