Cycling is a real pleasure, especially when you're downhill and on well-inflated wheels. Before going on a bike ride, make sure the tire pressure is correct. Otherwise, even a short trip can turn into an ordeal, or even lead to the failure of the bike.

It is necessary

  • - pressure gauge;
  • - Bicycle Pump.

Instructions

Step 1

Place the bike in a convenient position for maintenance, for example, leaning against a wall. The bike must be stable and the nipple inlet must be positioned so that the pump is comfortable to use.

Step 2

Check if your bike's wheels need a tire pressure adjustment. If the wheel is not fully inflated, the movement becomes difficult, since the contact area of the tire with the road increases. In addition, insufficient pressure can often cause the tire to break apart and increase the likelihood of rim damage. In the case when the wheel is knowingly over-pumped, the tire may burst, which is also undesirable.

Step 3

Use a pressure gauge to check the tire pressure. Normal tire pressure can be indicated in the technical data sheet of the bike; sometimes the maximum pressure is indicated on the side of the tire (in atmospheres or bar). When using a manometer, use the scale of this device that is convenient for you, since it can be graduated in two or even three units of measurement.

Step 4

When inflating a wheel for the first time, let all the air out of the tire first. To do this, press on the nipple tongue and hold it for a while.

Step 5

After making sure that the air is out of the wheel and the pressure is zero, attach the pump head to the nipple. When you start inflating the wheel, count the number of strokes you do. This is necessary in order to subsequently, knowing the required number of movements, inflate the tires without using a pressure gauge.

Step 6

Disconnect the pump from the nipple from time to time, connect a pressure gauge and check the tire pressure. Optimally inflated will be a wheel, the pressure in which is about 5-6% below the maximum allowable level.

Step 7

After inflating the wheel to the required level, disconnect the pump and screw on the nipple cap. Repeat the entire procedure with the second wheel. Your bike is ready for further durability tests.
