Snowboarding is one of the Olympic sports, the idea of which is high-speed or virtuoso descents from snow-capped mountains on a special board with leg bindings. As a skiing discipline, snowboarding began in the late 1960s, and by the turn of the millennium had become one of the most popular winter sports. It was during this period that snowboarders began to appear more and more on movie screens.
Perhaps the most famous and exciting film about this sport is called "Extreme", it was filmed in 2002. At the center of events are professional snowboarders who came to the snowy expanses of Yugoslavia to shoot a commercial, and as a result, fell under the gun of Serbian terrorists. Another adventure film with the romantic title "Avalanche Valley" was shot a year earlier. He tells the story of a former Olympian who decides to host an extreme sports championship. But shortly before the start of the competition, he was forced to close almost all routes due to the danger of avalanches. Even the threat of death does not stop the group of young snowboarders. The organizer of the championship is faced with the task of rescuing them. The Norwegian film "Switch", released in 2007, unfolds a snow-covered drama for the audience about newcomers and seasoned athletes who organize competitions to achieve a personal record. At stake for young boys is not cups, but love, honor and reputation. Also for fans of winter extreme we can recommend two films with unpretentious titles "Snowboarder" (2003, France, Switzerland) and "Snowboarders" (2004, Czech Republic). The first of them is a crime-adventure story that tells how an ordinary seller decided to become a snowboarder, but on the way to a dream crossed the path of his idol - a champion among professionals. The second film was shot in the comedy genre. It tells the story of two young lovers of extreme sports who came to a ski resort, but due to the supervision of their sister and everyday problems, they cannot not only ride the slopes, but also flirt with the girls. For family viewing, the American film Johnny Tsunami, released in 1999, a year after snowboarding became an Olympic sport, is suitable. The protagonist of the film is not a snowboarder at all, but a young surfer who has lived all his life in Hawaii and dominated the waves. As a result of unforeseen circumstances, Johnny and his family move to the snow-covered slopes, where he is forced to "retrain" as a snowboarder.
