After the main Olympic Games, the so-called Paralympics - the Olympics for disabled people - are held at the same sports facilities. The Paralympic Games have their own International Committee, awards and titles, only sports are slightly different from traditional ones.
The Summer Paralympics program includes the following sports: bocce (ball game for accuracy), archery, swimming (without the use of artificial limbs), dressage, bullet shooting, goalball, rowing, weightlifting, sailing and cycling. From 2016, athletes will also compete in kayaking. All these competitions are held according to the same rules as for healthy athletes, only for the visually impaired and blind assistants are required.
With some changes, judo is included in the program - it is attended by visually impaired and blind athletes. The main difference lies in the additional capture of the "kumikat", with which the fight begins. Prosthetists, wheelchair users and the blind participate in athletics competitions, the program of the competition includes throwing various objects, a track, pentathlon, jumping and a marathon.
Also at the Paralympic Games, table tennis and tennis competitions are held. In general, the rules are the same, but two bounces of the ball are allowed. In 1960, fencing was included in the program, while wheelchair chairs were attached to the floor. Wheelchair users also play basketball (the height of the basket is less than standard), football with teams of 5 and 7 people, rugby (the rules are completely changed here). Volleyball championships are held in the sitting and standing categories, depending on which the size of the court and the height of the net are selected.
Paralympic winter sports include freestyle and classic skiing, team and individual skiers. Disabled people take part in both traditional skis and chairs equipped with a pair of skis. Wheelchair users also compete in ice hockey, with 6 players from each team on the field. Players move in wheelchairs equipped with sled runners using iron-tipped sticks. The program of the Winter Paralympics also includes alpine skiing, wheelchair curling and biathlon.
