The Summer Olympic Games are held once every four years, and the venue for them begins to be selected on a competitive basis a decade before this event. The host city of the Olympics, which starts in mid-summer 2012, was finally determined by the International Olympic Committee seven years ago - London won the competition. The organizers published a detailed program of competitions of the largest sporting event of the four-year period long before its start.
The London Summer Olympics schedule was published almost a year and a half before the start - BBC Sports began distributing it on February 15, 2011. According to the program of the competition, the very first of them will begin on July 25 at 19:00 Moscow time (16:00 local time). However, it will not be held in the British capital, but in Cardiff, where the women's football teams of England and New Zealand will start the qualifying tournament. On this day, five more games of female football players will take place in different cities of Great Britain, and on the next, men's teams in the same sport will join the fight. All this will take place even before the official opening ceremony of the games, which is scheduled for the evening of July 27, although Moscow time it will be the beginning of the next day.
The Summer Olympics will last almost three weeks (19 days), but the first sets of awards will be presented in half a day after the opening ceremony - they will be received by the most accurate women who know how to handle a pneumatic pistol. In total, on this day - July 26 - the Olympic heroes will be decorated with 12 sets of medals. In England, 302 sets of medals will be played in 31 sports, for which more than twelve thousand athletes from two hundred countries of the planet are expected to compete. The last awards in ten sports will be presented by the organizers on August 12, and later all of them will be received by modern pentathletes. The official closing ceremony of the 2012 Summer Games is scheduled for the evening of the same day. It, like the opening ceremony, will take place at the Olympic Stadium in the British capital, which can accommodate 80,000 spectators.
