The new sport developed rapidly, and since 1880 ice hockey in Canada has been an obligatory game for all sports events. And 47 years later, in 1917, the world's first professional hockey league, the NHL, was formed. So it was the Canadians who ennobled the game, beloved by many, and that is why this country is officially considered the birthplace of ice hockey.
