Racing Point acquired land in Silverstone, which is 10 times the size of the available site, in order to increase the base.
Team Racing Point recently acquired 27 acres of agricultural land that sits alongside an existing three-acre base built back in 1991 for the Jordan Grand Prix.
Construction will begin immediately after all legal documents have been agreed upon. The central part will be located directly across the street from the main entrance to the Silverstone circuit.
The land near the base, where other important objects for the team are located, still belongs to Eddie Jordan.
Team leader Otmar Safnauer explained: “It's close by. We do not have permits yet, but? we hope that we will receive it soon.
We are currently working on an application. We have six months for all the necessary procedures. It will probably take 3-4 months before we apply for this permit. As soon as we get it, let's start working.
I think it will take us about two years to complete the new base, then we will pervert the entire infrastructure of the team into it.
We have three acres of land. We purchased 27 more nearby. We now have 30 acres."
The main goal is to place the entire team in one area, because now the aerodynamics department is based in a wind tunnel at Brackley, about 11 kilometers from the base.
However, the team has a problem, because now it is planned to limit costs starting from 2021. Therefore, it is difficult to understand which facilities should be built.
Safnauer added: “We have to choose the right sizes, but I don’t know which ones. When new rules are not known, it is difficult to do so. How do we know how big a factory to plan, what to build, and what not?
The only thing we know is that the staff building, which now stands on the site, is very small. We know this for certain. But what we don't know is the need for a new wind tunnel, for example.
We have acquired enough land to expand and will, if necessary, reduce it in accordance with the rules."
Safnauer added: “We have a definite idea of what 2021 will be like, even with spending constraints. Even with the cost limits mentioned, we still need more space. Now we have about 300 people at the main base and 100 at another.
We cannot accommodate more than 350 employees in one place, and we have 425 of them. We still need a new building to bring everyone together. We will expand. Therefore, whatever the limitation, our costs will still be lower.
We must also develop strategically over time. The main thing is to place everyone under one roof. It will be better this way.
Someone told me today that in terms of human resources, we are the second smallest team. I think there are even fewer people at Haas, but they spend more money. Therefore, in terms of the budget, we are probably the smallest, and in terms of human resources, we are the second smallest."
