All hockey fans of the world are eagerly awaiting the onset of autumn 2016, because the World Cup of Hockey begins in Toronto on September 17, in which the most outstanding players of our time will take part. The national teams have already announced the names of the 16 players who will form the base of the team. The composition of the Canadian national team is rightfully considered one of the strongest.
It is no coincidence that the pioneers of hockey became the triumphs of the last two Olympic Games in Vancouver and Sochi. The composition of the Canadian ice hockey team is traditionally strong, especially in those tournaments where all NHL stars can take part.
For the 2016 Ice Hockey World Cup, the Canadians have an excellent squad, which can be called the team of NHL captains. More than half of the field players of the base are captains in their clubs, some other members of the national team are assistant captains.
Goalkeepers
Canada's goalkeepers for the 2016 World Cup are represented by clubs from Chicago, Washington DC and Montreal. It is still difficult to say who exactly will take the number one post at the gate of the maple leaf national team. It only remains to list the names of the star goalkeepers: Corey Crawford, Carey Price and Braden Holtby.
Defenders
Canada's tentative squad includes four defenders from Los Angeles, Chicago, San Jose and Nashville: Drew Doughty, Duncan Keith, Mark-Edward Vlasik and Shay Weber. All these players made up the first two pairs of defense of the triumphant team of the Olympic Games in Sochi.
Forwards
The Canadian team has no problems with the attack. Rather, questions may arise from the coaching staff of the team, which will have to form the final application from many of the outstanding forwards of our time (which is very problematic, because wonderful NHL strikers from Canada can be recruited for at least two national teams). So far, the names of nine NHL super-forwards have been named.
Dallas has the largest representation. There are two strikers from this club: Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin. The rest of the forwards are represented by different clubs. In the composition of Canada, Chicago captain Jonathan Toews, Pittsburgh captain Sidney Crosby, New York Islanders captain John Tavares, Anaheim captain Rain Getzlaf, Tampa captain Stephen Stamkos, as well as forwards Patrice Bergeron (Boston) and Jeff Carter (Los Angeles).
Until June 1, 2016, this roster will be replenished with seven more NHL stars. At the moment, many leaders of their overseas clubs have not been included in the number of 16. There are only a few names that speak of the strengthening of the final squad: Philadelphia captain Claude Giroud, Anaheim goalscorer Corey Perry, forwards Joe Thornton, Chris Kunitz, Tyler Hall and others.
