Football ratings - a ranking system of football teams, determined monthly based on their performance in competitions. Tracking them regularly allows you to determine the strength of the football team and assess the dynamics of growth or decline. If you are new to the world of football, you must first understand the numbers in the ratings.

Instructions

Step 1

Judge the success of the team in the competition by the number of points. Also, the place of the team in the rating depends on the points. According to the results of each match played, the team receives a certain number of them in accordance with the FIFA rules. The last changes to these rules were made after the 2006 World Cup.

Step 2

For each game played, a team can theoretically receive from 0 to 2400 rating points. The maximum number of points - 2400 - can be earned by a team, being a European team, for a victory over another European team - the leader of the rating. The minimum amount - 0 - is awarded for a defeat. The next minimum number of points after zero is 43.

Step 3

In addition, you can evaluate the team's success by the number of points for the outcome of the match. They are awarded 3 points for a win, 2 points for a victory based on penalties, and 1 point for a defeat in a penalty shootout. No points are awarded for a defeat.

Step 4

Pay attention to another important indicator - the coefficient of the importance of the match. This parameter can seriously increase the number of points scored by a team per game. Thus, for the qualifying round of the continental championship and the world championship, the number of points increases by 2.5 times, for the final matches of the continental championship and FIFA confederations cups - 3 times, for the final of the world championship - 4 times.

Step 5

The next important parameter in the rating is the opponent's strength coefficient. It is calculated by subtracting the opponent's place in the rating from 200 and dividing the result by 100. For an opponent with the first place in the rating, the number of points received is doubled, for teams with 150th place and lower the coefficient is 0, 5. Thus, defeating a strong opponent gives more points than defeating a weak one.

Step 6

Next is the regional coefficient, introduced due to differences in regulations in different parts of the world. The coefficient itself has a value from 0.85 to 1. If teams from the same region participate in the game, the coefficient corresponding to that region is applied. If the opponents are from different regions, the arithmetic mean is calculated. The values of the coefficients for the regions themselves are calculated on the basis of the performances of regional teams at the world championships.

Step 7

To reinforce the significance of recent matches, a statute of limitations has been introduced. So, if a game was played more than a year ago, the number of points for that game is halved. If the match took place more than 2 years ago - three times, if more than 3 years - five times. Points for matches played over 4 years ago do not count.

Step 8

As a result, the total number of points is obtained by multiplying the points for the outcome of the match by the coefficients of importance, opponent's strength and regional. The resulting value is then multiplied by 100 and rounded to the nearest whole number.

Step 9

In addition, the average ratings are calculated by adding up the points for all games and dividing them by the number of games. These calculations are carried out for each of the 4 previous annual segments with the multiplication of the results by the coefficients of age. The addition of the averages for each annual segment gives the final rating of the football team.
