In 2014, Russia plans to host the XXII Winter Olympic Games in the resort city of Sochi. To finance the construction of Olympic facilities, it was originally planned to allocate 192.4 billion rubles from the federal budget. According to the Federal Target Program, the total budget together with the attracted investments should have amounted to 327.2 billion rubles. However, over the years of construction, these figures have changed significantly.

By mid-2012, the budget for the Olympics in Sochi exceeded 950 billion rubles, which is almost three times higher than the figures that were laid down for construction in the original version. Compared to the Winter Olympics of previous years, which were held abroad, with a budget of only $ 1.5-3 billion, Olympic construction costs Russia unprecedentedly.

However, officials from the Ministry of Regional Development overseeing the construction of Olympic facilities explain such high numbers by the fact that some of the new buildings are, in fact, infrastructure facilities in Greater Sochi, and the funds for their construction were actually spent on the development of the resort city. Those. formally, they cannot be attributed to the costs of preparing the Olympics.

If you conduct a detailed cost analysis, you will find that part of the funds will be spent not only on the construction of new facilities, but also on their dismantling and transportation, which are planned to be carried out after the end of the Games. Not all Olympic venues will remain in Sochi - some of them will move to large industrial centers in Siberia and the Urals, thereby contributing to the development of mass sports in these regions.

Russian officials are seriously concerned about the sporting future of this seaside town. They are going to build a track here, which will host the Formula 1 car racing competition. Its construction requires an additional allocation of $ 200 million. This money will also refer to the federal program for financing the construction of Olympic facilities.

Therefore, we can say that the figure of 950 billion rubles is by no means final. Now the figure of $ 39 billion is being announced, which in general will be spent on the Olympiad by the time it opens. Financial experts have already calculated that with such expenses, every Russian, including infants, will pay about $ 200 out of pocket for the pleasure of spending winter games in the subtropics.
